Who We Are
We are a group of neighbors
concerned with issues in our community. We come together
from West Rogers Park and West Ridge to work
collectively to address issues in our communities.
What We Value
Many of us choose to make this neighborhood our home
because we believe in the values of Rogers Park. These
values include a commitment to diversity and
inclusiveness, an activist community that encourages
involvement, and a belief that by coming together we can
accomplish many things. We also live in this
neighborhood because we enjoy the recreational
opportunities it affords; the shopping available to
residents; the educational options available to young
people; and, the institutions that support and nurture
us.
Our Concerns
After many discussions with our neighbors, we are
concerned about a variety of issues. We are deeply
concerned that the community doesn’t have a voice in
planning and zoning issues and believe the community
must have a role in these important neighborhood
decisions. With home prices rising, we are concerned
that long-time residents may be forced to move due to
rising property taxes. We are concerned that children of
current residents won’t be able to afford a home in the
community in which they have grown up. We are concerned
that we will lose the diversity of the community because
renters will be forced to move from the neighborhood.
We are concerned with school overcrowding and the impact
this has on the quality of education in the community.
We want additional educational options at both the
elementary and high school level to help families stay
in this community. We want to create opportunities for
the various education partners in our community to come
together to enhance the quality of education in our
community.
We want cleaner streets and safer traffic patterns. We
want programs for young people that help them develop
skills and invest them in the community. We want
revitalized business districts on Western Avenue and
Touhy Avenue.
What We
Believe
We believe that by coming together, we are stronger than
if we work on these issues individually. We believe that
these issues are important to community residents and
demand the attention of our political representatives.
We know that by coming together as a group we can
address our concerns.
